Job Overview for Maintenance Technician -This is the advanced journeyman level class within the Maintenance Technician group.
This class is distinguished from the Maintenance Technician 2 by the assignment of the full range of duties and the application of specialized knowledge in the more complex and advanced maintenance work of the department.
This position provides direction to all other maintenance classes.
Upon request required to attend meetings on various topics pertaining to the maintenance field.
Order supplies, manage inventory, schedule work, and assist in budget development and supply technical training to Maintenance Technicians 1 and 2.
Responsible for safely maintaining the tissue converting and nonwoven manufacturing equipment the best possible running condition with minimum downtime and cost.
Perform journeyman-level electrical work in the design, installation, construction, modification, repair and maintenance of electrical and mechanical equipment and systems.
General Responsibilities of a Maintenance Technician:
Responsible for daily, monthly planning of the Work-order system requests and scheduling of maintenance personnel, contractors, and support.
This position also includes all aspects of the Maintenance Technician 2 Maintain reports within the system that help track the maintenance workload; jobs completed; PM tracking and down-time of machines.
Further evolve the inventory management system and the overall accuracy of all inventories stored at NPS.
Actively participate in downs; meetings; projects; and work on specific work orders as needed.
Lead the maintenance initiatives and monitor the compliance of all safety policies.
Administer/manage vacation selection; and provide feedback on disciplinary issues.
Co-manage the Fire /Security system at the facility.
Manage the general facility maintenance-i.
e.
, Snow removal; lawn/landscape maintenance; HVAC.
Manage the engineering services and contractors.
Actively participate in the ongoing training within the department for each employee.
Source and purchase parts and services for the overall facility and machines-always with the best interest of the company in mind.
Manage on-call schedule, break schedules and time away from the facilities.
Clearly communicate to all crews and shifts the events of the shift to ensure a smooth and highly productive handoff from shift to shift.
Facilitate resolution of problems that may arise within the Maintenance area and bring unresolved issues to the Production Manager.
Understand bearing removal and installation practices Responsible for the coordination and outsourcing of facility higher end electrical and mechanical work and distribution.
Pipefitting skills and proficiency at using hand tools, portable electric tools and stationary shop equipment Value in preventive and predictive maintenance practices such as daily rounds and lubrication Practice/understand rigging fundamentals Ability to go online and troubleshoot and advanced PLC programming.
Proficient to Diagnose Electrical Drive issues and be able to make advanced program changes in various Drives Knowledge of contactors and starters, motors and motor controls Installing and maintaining various electrical controls and automation Strong electrical troubleshooting ability of AC/DC control wiring and relay logic Read and understand electrical schematics and prints.
Wiring 460/230-volt 3 phase motors.
Understanding of servo, hydraulic and pneumatically actuated equipment.
Installs machinery and equipment according to layout plans, blueprints, and other drawings in an industrial establishment Experienced with electric motors from fractional hp to 600 hp including servo driven motors.
Repair belt, chain, and sprocket conveyor systems All other tasks as assigned.
Requirements for Success of a Maintenance Technician:
Knowledge of Microsoft Office.
Be safety conscious and be willing to learn as necessary.
Have good mechanical aptitude and machine operating skills.
Be willing to work various hours depending on production and training schedules.
Have the physical ability to perform manual labor, which may include:
o Climbing o Bending o Repetitive motions o Standing for long periods o Lift up to 45 lbs.
Valid driver's license Required Experience Wiring single phase and three phase motors Test motors electrically for proper function AC/DC.
Understanding and troubleshooting PLC, (A/B Control/Logix or Siemens and GE Faunac) Proficient programming skills.
Welding and Fabrication experience Technical or Vocational degree and demonstrated and related equivalent experience required.
Journeyman's card and/or 7
years or equivalent experience and an Electromechanical degree is required.
