Senior Full Stack API Engineer

We are seeking a Full Stack API Developer in the US Application Development Shared Services department to help support the continual technical innovation of the organization.
The full stack API developer role requires knowledge in various aspects of developing integration middleware, with a heavy emphasis on understanding the business drivers for technical solutions.
As a member of the Shared Services organization, you will be in a position to influence multiple facets of the overall organization, including integrations, document management, and application security.
An ideal candidate should be prepared to think critically about what is being built and why, believe that the best product is one that supports our customers, and is constantly looking to grow and learn.

Key
Responsibilities:

As a full stack API developer, you will have the opportunity to:

  • Function at all levels of the SDLC, both Agile and Waterfall, covering activities such as requirements gathering and management, code development, platform integration, and software testing
  • Manage the full lifecycle of APIs, including:
    the development and testing REST APIs, the analysis and implementation of non-functional requirements such as performance, stability, and security, and the creation REST API specifications and documentation
  • Work closely with technical teams (internal and vendor) to gain in-depth knowledge of system architectures and coordinate integration of functionality
  • Collaborate with product teams, vendors, and industry organizations to understand all aspects of business processes, as well as troubleshooting integration connectivity with external partners
  • Support product sustainability by creating clear documentation at all levels, from high-level strategies, to integration design patterns and technical specifications
  • Ensure ongoing risk management of applications by engaging in security reviews (such as security flaw remediation and threat modeling) and by creating / automating security tests within a CI/CD pipeline

Essential Business Experience and Technical Skills:

Required:

  • Five or more years of experience with general enterprise level application integrations, e.
    g.
    ESB and SOA architectures with at least three years of direct experience in the development of REST APIs and technologies such as XML, JSON, YAML
  • Experience in Agile methodology
  • Experience in risk analysis and management methodologies as they relate to software engineering and integrations
  • Detailed knowledge of life insurance / workplace benefits data elements and structure
  • Bachelor s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Information Management, or related field

Preferred:

  • Experience with IBM API management tools, such as WMB, IIB, and API-C
  • Experience with DevOps methodologies in a CI/CD stack implementing containerized microservice solutions (Docker with Kubernetes)
  • Experience with Cloud-native solutions on IaaS / PaaS solutions preferably Azure
